• The original Poodle, known as early as the 15th century, was the larger one, the Standard Poodle. These were bred down to smaller sizes      specifically for use as companion dogs.
• The Poodle's name is actually derived from the German word "puddeln" meaning "to splash in water".
• The Poodle is one of the most intelligent dog breeds, second only to the Border Collie.
